January and February colors - Colorstroloy Book credit
Hi everyone,
I meant to introduce January's assigned color to you last month so you can start getting into the groove of the Colorstrology way of thinking when selecting color palettes for your quilts or any other projects you might be working on. This process is a lot of fun and an easy way to give you that initial boost when you are feeling stumped - it doesn't always work, but it's a good starting point. For example, I am working on a wedding quilt right now for a June wedding and I needed a little inspiration to get going. I consulted my handy Colorstrolgy book - looked up birthdays, the wedding date and it turns out the colors for the bride and groom were not motivating me to get this project in motion. I want to mention that Sue Lauer actually started this wedding quilt for me... thank you Sue!
Don't you think a Drunkard's Path is the perfect quilt choice for a wedding gift ? I decided to go with Kona solid periwinkle and white for the entire quilt and buttercup yellow for the binding.
When I select colors for a project, there is usually a meaning to my madness - I need it to somehow connect to the recipient(s) on a personal level. Here's how the colors in this quilt work from a colorstology standpoint: 1st: Periwinkle is my birthday color and I am making the quilt and I am the bride's godmother - both relevant points. 2nd: The bride is a Minnesota Swedish girl and the colors reflect the flag of Sweden and her heritage - relevant. 3rd: White is a wedding color. - important. and 4th: Yellow is the color for the month of June. Done. Wasn't that fun? Only 4 more blocks to go... away
This fabric is a contender for the back of the quilt ~ what do you think?
Let me know what your process is for selecting colors for your quilts?
Have a nice weekend.
